Thermo-economic Performance Analysis of a Trigeneration ORC Based System: Using Boiler Hot Water as Heat Source

In this study, a trigeneration cycle including regenerative Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), liquified natural gas (LNG) cold energy, and absorption refrigeration system using condensing boiler hot water is simulated from energy and exergy-economic point of view. In the proposed cycle, medium temperature water leaving the condensing boiler is used as the heat sources of ORC, LNG cold energy, and absorption refrigeration cycle and then returns to the boiler. The effects of various parameters such as boiler outlet temperature, condenser temperature, generator temperature, evaporator temperature as well as liquefied natural gas turbine pressure on energy and exergy efficiency, performance coefficient, exergy degradation rate and total system cost rate have been investigated. The results showed that increasing the boiler outlet temperature leads to an increase in exergy degradation and a decrease in energy and exergy efficiency. As the temperature of the condenser increases, the efficiency of the first and second rules decreases, but as the temperature of the generator and evaporator increases, the efficiency of the system in terms of energy and exergy increases. Also, increasing the inlet pressure of liquefied natural gas turbine increased the energy efficiency and exergy of the system. From the economic analysis, it was found that by increasing the boiler temperature from 363 to 393 K, the total cost of the system decreases by 28.12%. Liquefied natural gas heat exchanger, organic Rankine cycle condenser and boiler are components that should be considered in system design because they have the highest exergy degradation.
