Considering the role of solar energy and hybrid energy storage systems in improving electrical energy supply, this study introduces a new algorithm based on the whale optimization algorithm to solve the economic dispatch problem of solar energy under two different priority strategies: First Electric Load (FEL) and First Thermal Load (FTL). The results show that the energy savings (PEC) in the FEL strategy have decreased by 11.06% compared to the reference case, and in the FTL strategy, it has increased by 4%. Furthermore, the operational cost in the FEL strategies has decreased by 4.6% compared to the reference case, while in the FTL strategy, it has decreased by 54%. Additionally, the carbon dioxide emissions in the FTL and FEL strategies have decreased by 36.05% and 24%, respectively, compared to the reference case. Moreover, the energy savings (PEC) in the FTL and FEL strategies have decreased by 13.35% and 9.11%, respectively, compared to the reference case. Furthermore, the operational cost in the FTL and FEL strategies has decreased by 13.35% and 9.11%, respectively, compared to the reference case. On the other hand, the carbon dioxide emissions in the FTL and FEL strategies have decreased by 36.23% and 26.27%, respectively, compared to the reference case. The FEL strategy, aiming to minimize initial fuel consumption, has better performance than the FTL strategy due to reduced fuel consumption, operational cost, and carbon dioxide emissions. The energy savings (PEC) in the FTL and FEL strategies have decreased by 12.84% and 4%, respectively, compared to the reference case. The operational cost in the FTL and FEL strategies has decreased by 8.42% and 54%, respectively, compared to the reference case. Additionally, the carbon dioxide emissions in the FTL and FEL strategies have decreased by 30.14% and 24%, respectively, compared to the reference case.
